Reports coming out of Cumbria suggest Barrow have rejected an approach from Bolton for in-demand manager Ian Evatt.

Wanderers are understood to have made Evatt their number one choice to succeed the outgoing Keith Hill at the University of Bolton Stadium, but have so far fallen short of the £250,000 buy-out fee placed in his contract.

The 38-year-old has attracted interest from a number of EFL clubs in recent months but remained loyal to the project he undertook at Holker Street, culminating in him guiding the Bluebirds to the National League title in June following the curtailment of the league campaign.

Bolton interviewed names including David Lee, Steven Reid and Michael Jolley at the start of the week, but remain committed to luring Evatt to the club.

With any compensation package needing to be agreed and paid in full before permission to speak to Evatt is given, Wanderers could face a frustrating number of days ahead as they look to drive the price down.
