Bolton appear to have stepped up their persuit of a new manager, with reports suggesting they have made an official approach for Barrow's Ian Evatt.

Wanderers are actively searching for a successor to Keith Hill, whose contract at the club comes to an end on June 30, and are understood to have interviewed David Lee, Steven Reid and Michael Jolley this past Monday.

Club officials have now turned their attention to those currently in work - with bookmakers listing Evatt, Sol Campbell and Ryan Lowe amongst the favourites.

Barrow are reported to be holding out for a compensation fee in the region of £250,000 for Evatt, which would be payable in advance of talks being held and refundable should he not take up the reigns at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Evatt, who enjoyed success at Chesterfield and Blackpool, amongst other clubs, during a 19-year playing career, has been in charge at Barrow since June 2018 and guided them to the National League title this season, putting them back in the EFL for the first time since 1972.

Neither club is yet to comment.
