Former Bolton goalkeeping coach Fred Barber has accused Adam Bogdan of being disrespectful during his early days at the club.

Barber, who spent 16 years with Wanderers between 1996 and 2012, worked with names such as Keith Branagan and Jussi Jaaskelainen, whilst also playing a pivotal role in Bogdan's transfer from Hungarian side Vasas in the summer of 2007 after seeing the then 20-year-old at a summer training camp.

Still fondly remembered by Trotters supporters, Barber says the 'unwritten code' of goalkeeping is to allow the most senior players to train first, something Bogdan initially failed to take heed of.

"All I can remember with Adam was him moaning 'this isn't how we did it in Hungary," Barber told The Bolton News. "He was a nightmare.

"Jussi would stand there giggling. He knew who would win in the end.

"We had to rip a flipping headband off his head as well in the beginning. I wasn't letting him wear that.

"He did well. One thing that disappointed me slightly it that there's an unwritten code of conduct between keepers which says the senior keeper goes first in training. When Jussi started, he stepped back because Keith Branagan was the senior keeper.

"Unfortunately, that didn't happen for Adam. He wanted to be first in line and there was a little bit of disrespect, I think."

After a handful of appearances - the majority of which came in cup competitions - Bogdan became first-choice goalkeeper at Bolton in January 2012 and would leave the club in the summer of 2015 having played 120 games in all competitions.
