Tony Kelly has thanked Bolton supporters for their kind words and donations, following the death of his mother.

Kelly, who played for Wanderers between 1991 and 1994, has held several roles within the club in recent years and currently helps fund charitable projects through their Community Trust.

In a bid to support the 55-year-old in his family's hour of need, Trotters fan Allan Mather has created an online fundraising page which Kelly says will be used to purchase a memorial bench and plaque as a tribute.

In a message forwarded by John McGinlay, Kelly said: "I'm truly humbled by the messages, texts and phone calls from everyone regarding the passing of my beloved mum.

"The outpouring of love from all the BWFC family has left me very emotional and grateful I will be looking to purchase a nice bench and plaque in remembrance of my mum possibly at the hospital where she passed.

"On closing, again I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

"Love Zico x"
