Andy Lonergan has no plans to call time on his playing career, but says he would like to step into coaching when that day arrives.

Lonergan, who is on course to add to UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup medals with one from the Premier League in the near future, has spent the season as third-choice goalkeeper at Liverpool.

Speaking exclusively to Burnden Aces podcast Walking Down the Manny Road, the 36-year-old admits to still enjoying his football and joked that both he and David Wheater have discussed latching on to Jay Spearing's backroom staff when his former teammate eventually steps into management.

"I'm not going to pack in any time soon," Lonergan said.

"I've not missed a day of training in three or four years. I train every day, I'm fit and I can still get about the goal.

"I'll carry on playing for as long as I feel I'm capable.

"I'm enjoying it and the day that stops is when I'll pack in.

"There's a few things outside of football that I've got interests in but I think I'd like to be a coach.

"We've had discussions. Jay Spearing is going to be a manager and me and (David) Wheater are going in as his backroom - I don't know if he wants that but me and Wheats said we'd do it!

"I'd like to be a goalkeeper coach. I'd love to."
