Former Bolton midfielder James Weir has joined Slovakian side FK Pohronie, as he looks to resurrect a fledgling career overseas.

Weir, who joined Wanderers on a free transfer from Hull City in August 2019, made 12 appearances during the first half of the season but was released by mutual consent in January after falling out of favour under the management of Keith Hill.

The 24-year-old wasn't snapped up immediately but has now put pen-to-paper on a deal which secures his short-term future, with a team that recently finished bottom of the Slovakian top-flight - Fortuna liga.

With three wins from their 22 games in the regular campaign, Pohronie now face end-of-season play-offs to determine whether they retain their place amongst the elite or drop into 2. Liga just one year after clinching promotion.
