Ben Alnwick has come to an agreement with Bolton Wanderers that will see the remainder of his contract cancelled at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Alnwick, who turns 33 on New Year's Day, joined Wanderers on a free transfer from Peterborough United in August 2016 and was part of the squad that won promotion as League One runners-up in his first season at the club.

A host of Player of the Year awards followed as he helped keep the Trotters in the Championship in 2017/18, but he became caught up in the club's off-field issues last season as they slipped back into the third tier.

Alnwick made 95 appearances in total, the last of which came in a 2-0 defeat at Blackburn Rovers this past April.

In spite of widespread speculation, the reasons for Alnwick's departure remain undisclosed and he is free to seek alternative employment with the January transfer window just days away.
