Ross Joyce will referee Boxing Day's Sky Bet League One fixture between Sunderland and Bolton at the Stadium of Light.

Wanderers go into the game on the back of a 3-2 victory at home to Southend United on Saturday, while the Black Cats were held to a 1-1 draw by Blackpool that same afternoon.

Joyce, who will take charge of the game, has officiated 18 matches so far this season - issuing 76 yellow cards and three red.

His most recent outing was on December 14, when he was the man in the middle for Scunthorpe United's 2-2 draw with Colchester United in League Two. The Cleveland official brandished four yellow cards at Glanford Park, three of which went to members of the visiting side.

Joyce's last match in charge of Bolton was in March 2017, when they ran out 4-2 winners over Oxford United in a League One clash at the Kassam Stadium. Two players were cautioned that evening, including Wanderers defender Mark Beevers.

The last time he refereed a Sunderland fixture was on November 5, as they were beaten 2-1 by Leicester City U21 in a tie at the Stadium of Light. Four players entered the book that night, including Black Cats duo Conor McLaughlin and Grant Leadbitter.
