Liam Bridcutt's time as a Bolton player may have come to a premature end, after he was ruled out for the remainder of the calendar year with a shoulder injury.

Bridcutt, who has made eight appearances for Wanderers since joining on loan from Nottingham Forest in September, is due to return to the City Ground in January when a decision on his next steps will be made.

The 30-year-old recently missed a month of action with a fractured sternum and dislocated shoulder and was a surprise inclusion in the team that beat Milton Keynes Dons on November 16, but Trotters boss Keith Hill says the midfielder featured in that game and against Accrington Stanley the following weekend unbeknown that he had picked up another problem as a result of a training ground collision with Thibaud Verlinden.

"It's unfortunate, to be perfectly honest, especially with Liam," Hill told The Bolton News.

"He had a fracture of his collarbone and we didn't realise but there was a collision in the first week back in training and he did his other one, in a challenge with Thibaud.

"So the irony is that he was feeling pain in his chest and played the two games uncomfortably. Physically it was hurting and he's a contact player so we need that in his game. He went for an MRI scan and now we know he has fractured his other one."
