Bolton have progressed through to the knockout stage of the Trophy, having finished as runners-up in their qualification group.

Despite losing on penalties to both Bradford City and Rochdale, respectively, Wanderers put one foot in the last 32 of the competition when they recorded a 3-1 victory over Manchester City U21 a fortnight ago.

Tuesday's game between the Bantams and Dale was all that stood between the Trotters and a place in the next round, and a 2-1 win for the visitors wasn't enough for them to overcome Bolton's superior goal difference.

The draw for the second round will take place live on Sky Sports News from 14:00 this coming Saturday - November 16 - with the remaining clubs split evenly into Northern and Southern sections.

As group runners-up, Wanderers are guaranteed an away tie and will come up against one of seven group winners - with Manchester City U21 unable to be paired again.
