Adam Chicksen will not feature for Zimbabwe in upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with focus instead placed on his club career at Bolton.

Chicksen, whose only international cap came in a non-competitive game in March 2018, had been considered for forthcoming fixtures against Botswana and Zambia and was granted a Zimbabwean passport this past week which would have allowed him to play in FIFA recognised competitions.

After weeks of speculation, the 28-year-old's omission came as a surprise but Warriors boss Wellington Mpandare has revealed a decision was made in the best interests of the player's future at Wanderers - with his contract set to expire at the end of the calendar year.

"He is out of the Warriors' games," Mpandare told The Couch. "Chicksen is supposed to renew his contract (with Bolton) in December.

"Their league will not stop during the international break, so if he comes here during that time he will miss a couple of games and chances of him getting a new contract will be reduced."

Had Chicksen reported for international duty, he would have been absent for the Trotters' home clash with Milton Keynes Dons next Saturday, while his involvement at Accrington Stanley the following weekend would also have been in doubt.
