Keith Hill will take charge of Bolton for the first time on Saturday, when they face Rotherham United at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

Hill, who had little involvement in Wanderers' Trophy tie with Bradford City last time out, has spent the past 10 days on the training ground in an attempt to mould his new-look squad into an outfit capable of achieving the unlikely outcome of survival against relegation at the end of the season.

Heading into the weekend, the Trotters are 11 points adrift at the foot of the League One table and their hugely inferior goal difference effectively leaves them 17 points from safety with 39 games of the campaign to play.

Bolton, under the management of Phil Parkinson and then Jimmy Phillips, have had no other option but to field high numbers of youth players in the early stages of the season, but the addition of nine new recruits on transfer deadline day means the club can now begin to look forward and put the era of Ken Anderson well and truly in the past.

Speaking to the press on Thursday morning, Hill revealed a number of new names may not make the journey across the Pennines, whilst also confirming training ground injuries may cost others a place in his starting line-up.

The new boss refused to elaborate with the identities of those considered doubtful, but he will definitely be without the services of Joe Bunney after he broke ribs and a collarbone in a car crash last weekend.

Liam Edwards, on the back of signing a new contract earlier in the week, remains sidelined with an ankle injury sustained in August, while Josh Earl and Connor Hall remain unavailable with similar problems of their own.
