Liam Edwards has committed his long-term future to Bolton, signing a contract which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2022.

Edwards, who signed professional forms with Wanderers following his release by Stoke City in June 2018, has made three senior appearances for the Trotters this season but has been unavailable for the past month after picking up an injury in the Carabao Cup exit at Rochdale.

The 22-year-old captained the club's under-23 side to the Professional Development League National title in 2017/18 and has been widely tipped to regain a place in the first-team squad despite a sudden influx of senior options.

"It's been a tough six months but I've still enjoyed my football," Edwards said.

"This is my third season. In my first year we won the league with the under-23s, then last year I went out to Southport on loan.

"This season I really want to kick on and I believe under the new manager that I can do that."
