Bolton Defender Suffers Serious Injuries in RTA

Bolton defender Joe Bunney faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines, after breaking a collarbone and ribs in a road traffic accident.

Bunney, who joined Wanderers on transfer deadline day following his release by Northampton Town, was involved in a collision at 3:35am on Sunday in the Preston area of the M55.

A report by The Bolton News suggests Bunney, who is understood to have been the sole occupant of a Vauxhall Mokka, crashed into the central reservation of the motorway before coming to a standstill following a subsequent bump into a tree.

A statement by Bolton Wanderers, posted at bwfc.co.uk, confirmed the serious nature of the incident, which is likely to keep the 25-year-old sidelined for a number of months.

"Bolton Wanderers can confirm that Joe Bunney has been involved in a road traffic accident.

"The defender received medical attention for broken ribs and a broken collarbone and is being supported by the club's medical staff.

"He will remain in hospital for the next 48 hours as a precautionary measure.

"Everybody at Bolton Wanderers wishes Joe a quick recovery."
