Charles Breakspear will referee Saturday's Sky Bet League One fixture between Tranmere Rovers and Bolton at Prenton Park.

Wanderers go into the game on the back of a 5-2 Carabao Cup defeat at Rochdale on Tuesday, while Rovers were beaten 3-0 by Hull City on home soil as they also exited the competition.

Breakspear, who will referee the game, has officiated two matches so far this season - issuing 12 yellow cards and three red.

His most recent outing was on August 13, when he was the man in the middle for Colchester United's 3-0 victory over Swindon Town in the Carabao Cup. The Surrey official brandished five yellow cards at the JobServe Community Stadium, as well as dismissing United defender Cohen Bramall and Town forward Jerry Yates following an altercation.

Breakspear's last match in charge of Bolton was in April 2017, when they were 1-0 winners over Southend United in a League One clash at Roots Hall. Three players were cautioned that evening, including the Wanderers duo of Jay Spearing and Darren Pratley.

The last time he refereed a Tranmere fixture was in December 2018, as they were held to a goalless draw by Yeovil Town in a League Two encounter at Prenton Park. Two players entered the book that afternoon, including Rovers defender Liam Ridehalgh.
