Bolton take a break from league action on Tuesday night, when they face Rochdale in a Carabao Cup first-round tie at the Crown Oil Arena.

Wanderers fielded their youngest ever team in a goalless draw against Coventry City on Saturday, with the club's only fit senior players opting to forgo the fixture due to the ongoing ownership struggles between administrators, Ken Anderson and Laurence Bassini.

A number of those senior options could come back into contention for the short journey across Lancashire, while the fitness and conditioning of those who featured at the University of Bolton Stadium four days ago will be carefully monitored in an attempt to prevent fatigue.

Ben Alnwick and Erhun Oztumer were amongst those who refrained from playing against the Sky Blues, and manager Phil Parkinson says they are unlikely to feature again - with Alnwick struggling with illness, and Oztumer recovering from a medial knee ligament problem.

Connor Hall and Josh Earl both underwent surgery on ankle injuries last Friday and look set to miss between two and three months of action, while Dennis Politic may have to settle for a place on the bench after picking up a hip strain last time out.

Callum King-Harmes was forced off shortly after the hour-mark at the weekend after succumbing to cramp, so Finlay Hurford-Lockett may be given a first starting opportunity after impressing as a substitute.

One potential controversy ahead of kick-off could come in the form of the captain's armband, with Harry Brockbank hopeful of retaining the responsibility after Jason Lowe sat out the club's previous game.
