Harry Brockbank has expressed his pride at leading Bolton as captain for the first time, at the age of just 20.

Brockbank, a product of the Wanderers academy, had just five senior career appearances under his belt prior to Saturday's goalless draw with Coventry City, but was handed the armband by manager Phil Parkinson and his trusty youth coaches in Nicky Spooner and Gavin McCann.

Speaking after the game, Brockbank, who became the youngest player to skipper the Trotters since Kevin Nolan in January 2002 - aged 19 - admitted the opportunity and support given to himself and his teammates is one they will never forget.

"Being a Bolton lad myself and having all my family here, it's an extremely proud moment to captain my home-town team," Brockbank told OfficialBWFC on YouTube.

"I think we all knew it was going to be a tough day - you don't have to be a genius to work that out.

"But we stuck to our task and the lads played with freedom and energy. If you work hard you've always got a chance, no matter how old you are.

"How often is it you get to play for the first-team as an 18 or 19-year-old?

"'Keep your shirt' was the message in the dressing room. We all just worked hard, stuck to the task and I couldn't be more proud of the boys.

"The fans gave us a massive boost throughout the game. You keep hearing them cheering and it drives you on even more. It was absolutely incredible.

"The fans want to see big tackles and when they do it lifts everyone. If we look forward and keep working hard, hopefully we can do the same on Tuesday."
