Oldham Athletic have completed the signing of David Wheater, who had been available as a free agent following his release by Bolton.
Wheater, who joined Wanderers in a reported £2.3million move from Middlesbrough in January 2011, made 236 appearances during an eight-year spell with the Trotters and was named in the League One Team of the Year following the club's promotion in 2016/17.
The 32-year-old had spent time on trial with Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock over the summer and is understood to have received a contractual offer from Salford City, but opted to return to training with Bolton in an attempt to reach an agreement over a new contract.
However, with Wanderers unwilling to offer terms whilst in administration, Wheater has reluctantly called time on his stay at the University of Bolton Stadium and put pen-to-paper on a 12-month deal at Oldham.
He could make his debut for Latics when they travel to Forest Green Rovers on Saturday.
