Bolton's pre-season friendly against Oldham Athletic has been called off, after the League Two side pulled the plug on Saturday's fixture.

Wanderers were due to conclude their preparations for the new campaign with a short journey to Boundary Park, but will instead begin life in League One on the back of just one summer outing - a 1-0 defeat at York City.

Friendlies against Chester FC and Preston North End have already been axed over the course of the past week, with a first-team player strike at the University of Bolton Stadium blamed as the reason why, although a behind-closed-doors game against Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad did take place last Tuesday.

Phil Parkinson's side are due to begin their league season with a trip to Wycombe Wanderers on August 3, before stepping out on home soil against Coventry City the following weekend.

As things stand, season tickets and individual matchday sales are unable to be processed, whilst doubts remain over the stadium's safety certificate.
