Craig Conway and Ben Pringle featured as trialists on Tuesday, as Bolton were beaten 3-2 by Al-Ittihad in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

Conway, who is available as a free agent after leaving Blackburn Rovers at the end of last season, has been training with Wanderers in recent days, while Pringle is waiting to be snapped up after a three-year spell at Preston North End - which also saw him take in loans at Oldham Athletic, Grimsby Town and Tranmere Rovers - came to an end.

Out-of-contract duo David Wheater and Harry Brockbank were given time by manager Phil Parkinson, with both actively seeking new deals once the ownership situation at the University of Bolton Stadium has been resolved.

Erhun Oztumer and Connor Hall were on target for the Trotters at their Lostock training base, against a side that finished 10th in the Saudi Professional League last season.

Since its launch in 1976, Al-Ittihad have won the Pro League on eight separate occasions and finished as runners-up a further seven times. They are also two-time winners of the Asian Champions League and claimed fourth-place at the FIFA Club World Cup in 2005.

Many of the Bolton team who began the match lasted around an hour, before making way for their younger teammates to build up their game-time ahead of the new campaign.

Bolton Wanderers: Starting XI: Matthews, Boon, Zouma, Wheater, Brockbank, Murphy, Lowe, Pringle, Oztumer, Conway, Magennis
