Sammy Ameobi holds no regrets over his time at Bolton, despite cancelling the final year of his contract prior to linking up with Nottingham Forest.

Ameobi, who penned a 12-month contract at the City Ground in June, was the subject of a failed £500,000 bid from Forest back in the January transfer window.

The 27-year-old admits he had heard the speculation and although he was happy to seal a switch that saw him remain in the Championship, he failed to be critical of Wanderers and wished them the best of luck under new ownership.

"I heard that there was interest from Forest," Ameobi told the Nottingham Post. "I think that Bolton might have priced me out of the market a little bit, back in January.

"But that is how things happen in football sometimes and I am here now. I am just looking forward to continuing to develop; to playing a part here.

"I am pleased to be joining a club with big ambitions.

"I have no regrets about my time at Bolton. Despite everything that went on, I really enjoyed my time there. The players and staff - I got on well with all of them. I wish them all the best for the future.

"I am sad to see what has been happening at Bolton. Nobody wants to see that.

"There are people there who work ever so hard, in the best interests of the club. It can be difficult when there are factors from the outside, effecting things.

"I think the takeover will come soon, so hopefully they can rebuild and get back to where they belong.

"But I am looking forward to starting something fresh here; to being part of doing what we can to bring success here."
