Crystal Palace Linked With Bolton Goalkeeper

Reports on Thursday evening suggest Crystal Palace have made an initial enquiry over the availability of Bolton goalkeeper Remi Matthews.

Matthews, who spent the first half of last season on loan with Wanderers prior to penning a permanent deal in January, has made 20 appearances for Phil Parkinson's side and appears to have escaped the majority of the criticism directed at players following the club's relegation to League One last season.

The 25-year-old kept two clean sheets during the Trotters' dismal slide down the Championship table. He conceded 38 goals in the process but was largely preferred ahead of Ben Alnwick between the sticks.

Speculation in the capital that Palace have seen a bid turned down appear to be wide of the mark, with The Bolton News suggesting the Premier League outfit are hopeful of securing the former Norwich City man on a free transfer that would be heavily weighted with bonus payments, appearance and sell-on clauses.

Matthews returned to Lostock for the start of pre-season training on Monday as one of just seven senior players who remain, and news of Palace's interest could force a switch for a player who hasn't received a wage since the end of March.
