Luca Connell has issued a message of thanks to Bolton and their supporters, after his association with the club ended following a transfer to Celtic.

Connell, who had been with Wanderers since the age of nine, joined the Scottish Premiership champions over the weekend for a development fee understood to have been in the region of £350,000.

The move received a mixed response from Trotters supporters, some of whom felt the 18-year-old had turned his back on the club that gave him his chance at professional football, but Connell took to social media to send a parting message to those who have helped him progress.

"The last ten years has been an incredible journey at Bolton," Connell posted on Instagram.

"There's too many people for me to mention individually, but I want to sincerely thank everyone at the club who has helped me grow into the footballer and person I am today.

"To the Bolton fans, I can't thank you enough for the support you showed us each week. Even through the tough times, your passion always inspired me to give it everything I had.

"BWFC will always be special to me."
