Laurence Bassini is refusing to admit defeat in his pursuit of ownership at Bolton and has again threatened to take his case to court.

Bassini, who has publicly chased the 94.5% shareholding of outgoing chairman Ken Anderson since March, is said to be furious with administrators David Rubin & Partners, who are set to announce the Football Ventures (Whites) Limited consortium as preferred bidders on Monday - after they signed a Heads of Terms agreement on Saturday.

A report in The Sun suggests Bassini has committed to paying off debt owed to the trustees of the late Eddie Davies and other secured creditors, as well as settling the full amount owed to unsecured creditors - rather than 25% of the total currently on the table by Football Ventures.

On June 5, Bassini first commented on his intention of court proceedings and now, three weeks on, he has reaffirmed a stance that could have serious implications on the timing of any successful takeover.

"I did not want the club to go into administration," Bassini said.

"When it did I offered to pay the trustees and I was also happy to pay for the hotel immediately.

"Every time I made an offer it was leaked to Sharon Brittan [of Football Ventures]. Nobody has made a better offer than me."
