Mark Beevers will leave Bolton when his contract expires on June 30, having signed a three-year deal with Peterborough United.

Beevers, who joined Wanderers on a free transfer from Millwall in July 2016, made 51 appearances during his debut campaign with the club and was included in the League One Team of the Season as the Trotters won promotion as runners-up to Sheffield United.

He would to go on to play a further 81 times over the two seasons that followed - taking his overall total to 132 - but grew frustrated with off-field issues at the University of Bolton Stadium, which led to a player strike in their penultimate fixture of the 2018/19 season at home to Brentford.

Beevers will now line up against Bolton next season, with Posh understood to be investing heavily in a squad capable of taking them back to the Championship after what will be a seven-year absence.

"I spoke to the manager a few times over the summer," Beevers told theposh.com. "He told me the plans on and off the field and it was very attractive to me.

"I am really pleased that everything has been sorted early and I am looking forward to meeting the rest of the squad in pre-season.

"I am really good mates with Ben Alnwick and he had nothing but positive things to say about the club.

"Looking at Peterborough from the outside, they are a side that score a lot of goals so I am sure it will be an exciting season and one that I am looking forward to being a part of. I hope I can bring my experience and help the team push for the top six of the division.

"We want to be successful, we want to push for promotion and hopefully we can achieve that. I can't wait to get started."
