Dean Holdsworth has revealed his sadness at Bolton's plight and says the EFL need to fully investigate any potential wrongdoings from owner Ken Anderson.

Holdsworth, who brought Anderson to the club as joint owner in March 2016, held a 38% share in Wanderers from that time until August 2017, when his parent company - Sports Shield BWFC - was placed into liquidation at the High Court.

That allowed Anderson to increase his shareholding to 94.5%, giving him ultimate control on club matters, but the Trotters have struggled to survive ever since and look set to enter administration on Tuesday following the collapse of a takeover involving former Watford owner Laurence Bassini.

Despite his differences with Anderson, and the fact that he disappeared under a cloud at the start of last season, Holdsworth looks back on his time at the University of Bolton Stadium with fond memories and hopes things will improve sooner rather than later.

"I'm so saddened to see where it is at this time," Holdsworth told Love Sport Radio.

"I was involved two years ago. I love the club - I think it's a fantastic stadium and the fans have been unbelievable.

"I think everybody is at the end of their tether inside the club and I feel so sad for the guys who work so hard.

"You've got to look at the person in charge of the place. Does he care? I don't think so.

"Did he made a commitment to the EFL? Yes, he did and that hasn't materialised.

"When the time come for reflection on what has happened, he needs to be seriously looked at for what he promised and what he's done to the club.

"He has affected so many lives in a negative way and it's not good.

"I seriously hope that before Wednesday, when there's a court hearing, that something can be done with some of the stakeholders in the club."
