Parkinson: 'A Couple of Players Put Their Notice In'

Phil Parkinson admits he found it difficult to choose Bolton's team to face Nottingham Forest, with outside influences impacting upon his decisions.

Wanderers ended their campaign with a 1-0 defeat at the City Ground, in what was their first game since a player strike caused the postponement and eventual cancellation of a home fixture against Brentford.

Pawel Olkowski was a notable absentee from the squad, having served notice of his resignation, whilst speculation persists that Sammy Ameobi - who was also absent - has done the same amid reports of a potential move abroad.

Speaking following his side's 30th loss of a record-breaking campaign, Parkinson refused to mention names but confirmed 'a couple' of players have submitted their resignations, whilst a number of others were missing having received offers from other clubs.

"It was tough to pick a team," Parkinson said. "We basically had the lads we selected there, in the 18.

"We had injuries and a couple of players put their notice in, while a few players who are out of contract this summer have offers elsewhere and did not want to put themselves at risk.

"It has been a difficult week, in terms of team selection. But I am very proud of the lads who did play.

"I have been in football for 35 years and the things I have experienced in the last few years at Bolton have not been close to anything else I have experienced. It has been extraordinary at times.

"But the staff have stuck together and conducted themselves in a professional way every day."
