The EFL have granted Laurence Bassini a further 48 hours to provide proof of funding, ahead of a proposed takeover of Bolton.
Bassini met with Shaun Harvey, chief executive of the EFL, on Tuesday evening, having agreed with outgoing Wanderers chairman Ken Anderson that the deal would either reach a positive conclusion or talks would be brought to a close.
With the league opting against ratifying the prospective owner, the Trotters remain in a state of limbo as players and staff today saw wages go unpaid for a second successive month - 32 days after salaries for the month of March were originally due.
Following the meeting between Bassini and Harvey, an EFL spokesperson said: "The EFL's CEO has tonight met with Laurence Bassini regarding a possible change of control at Bolton Wanderers.
"The EFL has not received all the information it requires and Mr Bassini has committed to return with the relevant details in the next 48 hours."
