Saturday's Championship fixture between Bolton and Brentford has been postponed, following a boycott by Wanderers players.

Less than 17 hours before the game was scheduled to kick-off, confirmation arrived that Trotters players have refused to take to the field following the non-payment of March's wages - which were due to be received on March 29.

Brentford players and staff, as well as a number of supporters, had already made the long journey towards the University of Bolton Stadium but the first-team squad have stuck with their collective decision.

A brief statement, posted at, read: "Bolton Wanderers Football Club regrettably confirms that Saturday's Sky Bet Championship fixture against Brentford has been called off.

"The club would like to apologise for the inconvenience this will cause.

"A further update will be released in due course."
