Prospective Bolton owner Laurence Bassini says the hold-up surrounding his takeover rests with outgoing chairman Ken Anderson.

Wanderers last week revealed they are to become 'debt free' following Bassini's aquisition of a 94.5% shareholding from Anderson but the deal has yet to be officially ratified by the EFL, leaving players and staff in limbo amid a 28-day non-payment of March's salaries.

With Saturday's Championship clash with Brentford in doubt over a proposed player boycott, Bassini has provided an update on the boardroom situation at the University of Bolton Stadium, saying Anderson wishes to remain at the club in a directorship position.

"Ken wanted to stay on as a director," Bassini told The Bolton News. "I have been working hard to get the shares but people need to know what he is doing.

"I have been speaking with creditors - people like Kier Gordon, who looks after Eddie Davies' trust - and trying to sort things out because the job he did for the club while he was alive, it can't be allowed to go to waste.

"I have been speaking with Shaun Harvey at the EFL, with Sir Dave Richards (former Premier League chairman) and I will speak with the players as soon as I can - I am not going to let this club down."
