Laurence Bassini is 'not fit to be anywhere near a football club' and his time in charge at Watford was full of 'clown-like incompetence'.

Those are the views of Hornets supporter Jon Mardle (@jonmardle94), who was less than complimentary about a man who has agreed to purchase a majority 94.5% shareholding in Burnden Leisure Limited - parent company of Bolton Wanderers - from outgoing owner and chairman Ken Anderson.

Bassini, who has twice been declared bankrupt and also served a three-year ban from positions of authority within football clubs, expects to receive approval from the EFL to conclude a takeover at the University of Bolton Stadium in the coming days.

As described by the club themselves, Wanderers are to become 'debt free' following the arrival of Bassini, but one Watford fan has urged the Trotters faithful to err on the side of caution.

"If I had to summarise his time at Watford, I would say it was a total joke from day one.

"The wording 'clown-like incompetence' would be absolutely spot on.

"The success story of his time here would be when he sold the club to current owner Gino Pozzo.

"We haven't looked back since and God only knows what would have happened had he stayed. I dread to think where we would be now.

"Bassini was a joke. He never turned up to fan forums when he had agreed, and there was the famous incident with the safe keys.

"He was totally out of his depth and the way he gloated with the local newspaper when we lost the 2013 play-off final was a disgrace. In my opinion, he's not fit to be anywhere near a football club again.

"It's the fans that always suffer."
