Phil Parkinson hopes Pawel Olkowski's goal against Millwall will boost a player he claims has been affected by off-field uncertainty at Bolton.

A free signing from German side FC Koln in July 2018, Olkowski was outstanding during the early stages of his Wanderers career but has endured a mixed time of late, despite making 34 appearances thus far in his debut campaign at the club.

Parkinson believes the Poland international has struggled to fully understand the seriousness of the Trotters' financial woes, with an interpreter required to explain goings on, and the manager hopes the 29-year-old's performance against the Lions will serve as a platform for him to build upon in the final 10 games of the season.

"I am so pleased for Pawel, as he took his second goal of the season very well," Parkinson told bwfc.co.uk.

"That will certainly lift him and that is key.

"He has been affected recently with the off-field issues and sometimes he doesn't understand what is going on behind the scenes.

"I had a good chat with him and his agent, who acted as an interpreter, just to explain what is going on in great detail."
