Phil Parkinson believes Norwich City are a Premier League side in waiting, but admitted his Bolton players gave themselves no chance of picking up a result.

The Canaries ran out comprehensive 4-0 winners at the University of Bolton Stadium on Saturday, with Marco Stiepermann and Emiliano Buendia adding to a brace from Teemu Pukki.

The result puts Daniel Farke's side top of the Championship with 13 games left to play, while Wanderers are three points from safety.

Speaking after the game, Parkinson felt his Trotters team failed to compete to the necessary levels, leaving Norwich to see the game through with their higher levels of quality.

"We got beat by a very good side today," Parkinson told

"They were right at the top of their game, but we can do much better.

"Some of their goals and approach play were of Premier League calibre, not top of the Championship.

"To get a result against a team like Norwich, everything has to go perfectly, in terms of staying on your feet when you are closing down, tracking and staying with runners and in that aspect, we were off it today.

"We got punished for that by a very good side.

"I saw them play against Preston and they could have won that game.

"Pukki had three or four one on ones similar to today, but he didn't take his chances on that occasion. Today, he finished his chances in clinical fashion.

"I think going into the game against Birmingham on Tuesday, if someone would have offered us three points out of these two games, we'd have taken it.

"We are still in touching distance with the sides around us.

"We need to look at what we could have done better and go to Leeds believing we can get something from the game.

"The fixtures in the following month are favourable for us going forward and we will give ourselves a decent chance of staying in the division."
