Phil Parkinson believes the future is bright for Luca Connell and Joe Pritchard, who made their first senior starts in Bolton's FA Cup defeat at Bristol City.

Connell has been with Wanderers since the age of nine and became the first player born since the turn of the millennium to represent the club at first-team level when he came off the substitutes' bench in the third round victory over Walsall.

Pritchard, meanwhile, is a relative newcomer to the Trotters having joined the club following his release from Tottenham Hotspur this past summer.

After handing the duo their full debuts at Ashton Gate, Parkinson expressed his delight at their performances, which have put them in contention for places in Tuesday's Championship crunch clash at home to Reading.

"Luca was brilliant tonight," Parkinson told"Him and Pritch deserve their opportunity in this fixture.

"Luca has been very good in the Under-18s and the Under-23s and Pritch has been excellent also in the development group.

"We wanted to use Joe a bit earlier but due to the embargo, we were unable to.

"I just said to him that he may not have had as many touches as Luca tonight, but sometimes in that position you do not.

"What he did do was three or four class things on the ball and I am very pleased for him."
