Josh Magennis became the first Wanderers player to score a hat-trick since September 2014, as they booked a place in the fourth round of the FA Cup for a first time in three seasons.
Clayton Donaldson was also on target at the University of Bolton Stadium, while an own-goal from Saddlers defender Jon Guthrie also helped seal passage into the next round for Phil Parkinson's side.
