Bolton will look to end the calendar year by doing something they haven't managed since the start - winning back-to-back home league games.

Having brought an end to a 13-game winless run by picking up three points against Rotherham United on Boxing Day, Wanderers will know a repeat performance could see them move out of the Championship relegation zone.

The last time they won successive matches on home soil dates back to New Year's Day, however, when they followed up a pre-Christmas victory over Cardiff City with a 1-0 win over Hull City - coincidentally the same opposition Phil Parkinson's side will open against in 2019.

The Trotters boss made three changes last time out, with Mark Beevers, Joe Williams and Clayton Donaldson all going into the team.

All three will be hopeful of retaining their places for the visit of the Potters, although Bolton do have fitness concerns over a number of players.

Gary O'Neil (groin), Andrew Taylor (calf) and Sammy Ameobi (ankle) are all considered doubts after putting themselves through the mill against Rotherham, while Jack Hobbs continues to be assessed after picking up a slight knock during training over the festive period.

Jason Lowe impressed at right-back last time out before switching to the opposite flank following Taylor's enforced withdrawal. With Pawel Olkowski pushing for a recall, Lowe may be handed a start as an unfamiliar deputy should Taylor fail to prove his fitness.

Marc Wilson is in contention to face his former club alongside Joe Williams in midfield, while Will Buckley and Craig Noone are knocking on the manager's door should be opt against the inclusion of both Ameobi and Donaldson.

Jonathan Grounds, Josh Vela, Erhun Oztumer and Yanic Wildschut are yet to feature over the Christmas period, while Christian Doidge may be rested in favour of leading goalscorer Josh Magennis.
