Former Bolton forward Tony Philliskirk has been appointed as under-18 coach at Burnley.

Philliskirk, who scored 75 goals in 182 appearances for Wanderers between 1989 and 1992, has spent the past 20 years occupying various positions at Oldham Athletic but was suspended in April pending the outcome of a club investigation.

Pete Wild took over Philliskirk's role as academy manager on an interim basis in October, effectively bringing an end to his time at Boundary Park.

Speaking about his switch to Turf Moor, Philliskirk admitted he couldn't turn down the opportunity to return to the club he played for in the 1994/95 campaign.

"As a former player here, I have an affinity to the club and from bringing youth teams here over the years I've seen the club and its facilities develop," Philliskirk told burnleyfootballclub.com.

"The training ground is amazing and a far cry from the days when I was a player.

"It's been an amazing transformation for the whole club and I just feel absolutely privileged to be here."

Oldham Athletic declined to comment on Philliskirk's departure.
