Phil Parkinson continues to back his players, despite watching on as Bolton slipped to a record-breaking 1-0 defeat at home to Swansea City.

Barrie McKay scored the only goal at the University of Bolton Stadium, consigning Wanderers to a fourth consecutive home defeat without finding the net for the first time in their history.

Speaking after the game, Parkinson felt his team's display was once again worthy of a result and retained belief the Trotters will snap out of their current run if performances continue in the same manner.

"I am very disappointed with the result and again, I stand here saying similar things to what I have previously," Parkinson told

"We've conceded after 15 minutes and we could have reacted better but it is an incredible strike from the lad straight into the top corner.

"We've dominated large parts of the game and had several chances but when we have those periods of pressure, we are unable to turn them into goals at the moment.

"I cannot fault the lads for effort at all. Effort to run, keep going and bravery to keep playing.

"Everyone has worked so hard this week, players and staff, because we knew it was a big game for us.

"We have given it everything and we are just lacking that moment of quality to give us a lift in the games.

"You can talk about systems, styles and personnel and we all analyse every performance and how we could have done various things.

"In reality, the difference is just putting the ball in the back of the net when we have those periods of pressure.

"That is the difference between us and we feel that when we beat Derby, it was an excellent display from us.

"I thought today that we were as good as that but the difference is, we just didn't get the goal.

"The lads are down but I am not down with them.

"I thought every single one of them gave their all for the club."
