Remi Matthews could be set for an unopposed run in goal for Bolton, after regular goalkeeper Ben Alnwick suffered a torn groin.

Matthews, who joined Wanderers on loan from Norwich City in August as part of a deal which will be made permanent in January, was making his first appearance at Championship level as Phil Parkinson's side registered a 1-0 victory over Derby County on Saturday.

Speaking after the game, assistant manager Steve Parkin, who was interviewed after Parkinson had lost his voice, said Matthews did everything expected against the Rams and that his workrate and professionalism in training means he deserves the opportunity to impress.

"Remi has had to wait his turn but he came in and did well," Parkin told bwfc.co.uk.

"He's not had a great deal to do but everything he did do was great. His kicking looked neat and tidy, then when he was called upon to make a big save he did so.

"We're really pleased for him because he's worked and trained hard. Ben unfortunately has a bit of an injury but he (Matthews) has come in and taken his chance."
