Wigan Athletic have completed the signing of Alex Perry, who had been available as a free agent following his release by Bolton.

Perry, who progressed through the academy system at the University of Bolton Stadium, made two senior appearances for Phil Parkinson's side - the last of which came in an FA Cup first-round tie against Grimsby Town in November 2016.

The 20-year-old was an unused substitute on six separate occasions but ultimate failed to make the progression required to make it at first-team level, amid heavy competition from names such as Darren Pratley, Karl Henry and Josh Vela, amongst others.

Perry will initially link up with the under-23 squad at the DW Stadium, where he is joined by former Blackpool trainee Denzel Williams.
