Josh Magennis has been credited with Bolton's winning goal in their recent Championship encounter with Birmingham City.

Uncertainty struck on August 22 when Wanderers beat the Blues at the University of Bolton Stadium, with the club's PA announcer informing supporters that Sammy Ameobi had scored in a 1-0 victory, while official statistic providers listed Will Buckley as the match winner.

At the time, the Trotters' social media team awarded the strike to Magennis, something which has now been confirmed following a meeting of the EFL's dubious goals committee - taking his overall tally for the season to three.

The 28-year-old could feature for Northern Ireland when they face Bosnia-Herzegovina in a UEFA Nations League encounter on Saturday, and Bolton boss Phil Parkinson believes the forward's performances since his arrival from Charlton Athletic - highlighted in last weekend's draw at Preston North End - meant he was fully deserving of the call.

"I'm pleased for Josh because I thought he was immense," Parkinson told bwfc.co.uk.

"He was playing against two good centre-halves - experienced Championship players - and he's new to the level as well.

"Three goals at this stage of the season is a good return for him."
