Bolton boss Phil Parkinson has expressed his delight at Erhun Oztumer's attitude and contribution since joining on a free transfer from Walsall.

Oztumer, who scored on his Wanderers debut in a Carabao Cup defeat at Leeds United last Tuesday, was handed a first league start for the club as they beat Birmingham City at the University of Bolton Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Speaking after the game, Parkinson said he expects the 27-year-old to improve as the season progresses, but admits to being 'pleased' with his efforts to-date.

"I'm pleased with Oztumer," Parkinson told "It was his first game at Championship level.

"We just felt we needed that little bit of quality in the middle of the pitch and I felt Gary O'Neil and Oztumer gave us that at times.

"We want it more frequently but you could see the quality both of those players possess.

"Oztumer can create things in that final third for us. He's going to get better and better as he adapts to the level but he wants to improve.

"He's a great lad and he's fitted in with the group well so far."
