Adam Le Fondre has left Bolton with immediate effect, with reports suggesting he is set to join Australian side Sydney FC.

Le Fondre, who was a surprise omission from the Wanderers squad that travelled to Leeds United on Tuesday, recently revealed he had considered his future back in January as he struggled to receive regular first-team opportunities.

The 31-year-old, who has scored 21 goals in 75 appearances during two separate spells at the club, has once again been restricted to a substitutes' role in the early part of the season and is understood to have formally requested the chance of a new start down under.

A statement, posted at bwfc.co.uk, read: "Adam Le Fondre has been given permission by Bolton Wanderers Football Club to speak with a club overseas regarding a possible transfer after being presented with an "opportunity of a lifetime".

"The striker, who has not featured in Wanderers' Carabao Cup squad at Leeds United this evening, has expressed a strong desire to take on this new challenge.

"Taking all factors into consideration, Bolton Wanderers Football Club has reluctantly agreed to allow the player to leave the club with immediate effect to pursue his ambitions.

"Everybody at Bolton Wanderers Football Club would like to thank Adam for his excellent service to the club and we wish him and his family all the best for the future."
