Bolton remain unbeaten in pre-season, as they were held to a goalless draw by Spanish side Girona at the County Ground, in Leyland.

Girona, who are in the country at the commencement of their own plans for next season, finished 10th in La Liga last term and will consider the result a positive one ahead of Monday's game against Oldham Athletic.

Despite heavy speculation in the build-up to kick-off, there was no place on the Wanderers teamsheet for Stephen Ireland - although manager Phil Parkinson did use the friendly as another opportunity to take a look at the likes of Gary O'Neil, Jack Hobbs and former Manchester City prospect Marcus Wood.

Pawel Olkowski started at right-back, while new signing Yanic Wildschut joined Clayton Donaldson in attack.

In an event first-half, it was the hosts who were given the chance to break the deadlock when Donaldson was brought down on 20 minutes and the referee pointed to the penalty spot.

The former Birmingham City forward took responsibility for the spot-kick, but ultimately saw his effort parried away by Girona goalkeeper Marc Vito.

David Wheater headed inches wide from a Craig Noone free-kick just moments after the restart, although it wasn't until the final five minutes when substitute Adam Le Fondre clipped a post that either side looked likely to open the scoring.

In the end, it wasn't to be for either side and attentions now turn to Tuesday night, when the Trotters face non-league Guiseley AFC in their penultimate friendly of the summer - with the new campaign just two weeks away.
