Chelsea youngster Dujon Sterling has revealed he came close to signing for Bolton, before ultimately ending up with League One new-boys Coventry City.

Sterling, who is currently on international duty with the England under-19 side, has been with the Blues since the age of seven but will spend the campaign in the third tier as he looks to gain experience of the professional game.

The 18-year-old has two first-team appearances to his name at Stamford Bridge and says the influence of City assistant manager Adi Viveash, who had previously worked at the Chelsea Academy, was the deciding factor.

"Initially I was going to sign for Bolton but I got a call from Adi and he just said that if I come to Coventry he knows I'll bring a lot to the team and that it will be the best place for me to learn," Sterling told the Coventry Telegraph.

"It's my first loan and he said it's a family environment and just a nice place to be. And the three days I was there before coming away with England I enjoyed it very, very much.

"I thank Coventry for giving me the opportunity to play and get more first team experience."
