Former Portsmouth midfielder Gary O'Neil featured for Bolton on Tuesday, as they drew 0-0 with Morecambe in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

O'Neil, who is available as a free agent after leaving Bristol City in June, is perhaps best known from his career beginnings at Fratton Park, where a return of 17 goals in 192 appearances earned him a reported £5million move to Middlesbrough in the summer of 2007.

He achieved Championship play-off success at West Ham United in 2012, Queens Park Rangers in 2014 and Norwich City in 2015, but has drifted in recent times - making just six appearances at Bristol City last season.

Joining O'Neil at the Eddie Davies Academy were David Cotterill and Sam Walker.

Cotterill, a free agent after leaving Indian Super League side ATK, is primarily a winger and has more than 20 caps for Wales since making his senior debut against Azerbaijan in October 2005.

Walker, who progressed through the youth systems at both Millwall and Chelsea, failed to make the grade at Stamford Bridge, but made more than 200 appearances during a four-year spell at Colchester United before failing to agree terms on a new deal.
