Reports in London suggest Charlton Athletic are closing in on the signing of former Bolton captain Darren Pratley.

Pratley, who left Wanderers last month after seven years at Macron Stadium, remains a free agent and is said to be keen on a return to his native London, where he has previously represented both Fulham and Brentford.

The 33-year-old is understood to have been training with the Addicks in recent days and manager Lee Bowyer is hopeful a deal can be concluded before their pre-season trip to Dulwich Hamlet on Wednesday.

Speaking to the South London Press, Bowyer said: "We're just waiting on an answer from a midfielder.

"That will be permanent, if he comes.

"Hopefully this one comes in but it is out of our hands. Other clubs want these players. But trust me, we are trying our hardest to bring them."

The League One club are also being linked with a loan move for West Ham United midfielder Josh Cullen, who made 12 appearances during a loan spell at Bolton in the first half of last season.
