Blackpool have completed the free signing of goalkeeper Mark Howard, who had been available as a free agent following his release by Bolton.

Howard, who has signed a two-year deal at Bloomfield Road, spent two years with Wanderers after joining on a free transfer from Sheffield United, making 39 appearances in all competitions before being told his services would no longer be required.

The 31-year-old played five times during a brief loan spell with the Seasiders in the 2011/12 campaign and hopes his return to the League One club will help him in his quest to play regular first-team football.

"I've been speaking to the manager for a few weeks now and spoke to many clubs as well," Howard told blackpoolfc.co.uk.

"But after speaking to the manager I definitely wanted to come down and be part of what he's trying to build here.

"It's also important for me to get back playing, and that's a big motivation in coming."
