Former Bolton loanee Jon Flanagan is closing on a move to Rangers, according to reports in Scotland.

Flanagan, who spent the second half of last season on loan with Wanderers, is available as a free agent following his release by Liverpool and could be set for an Ibrox reunion with Steven Gerrard, with whom he played alongside during their time at Anfield.

The 25-year-old is understood to have undergone a medical on Wednesday and is expected to link up with his new teammates as part of a pre-season training camp in Spain.

Flanagan made nine appearances during his time with Bolton but failed to perform to the levels that had previously seen him earn a call-up to the England national team, with a clear lack of fitness and match practice seeing him overlooked as the campaign drew to a close.
