Ben Amos will return to Bolton when pre-season training commences, but remains unsure where his future lies.

Amos, who spent time on loan with Wanderers in the 2014/15 campaign before making the move permanent that summer, hasn't played a league game for the club since May 2016 and has spent the past two years on loan at Cardiff City and Charlton Athletic, respectively.

The 28-year-old has 12 months remaining on his contract at Macron Stadium and could return as backup to Ben Alnwick, following the departure of Mark Howard.

The goalkeeper's wages remain a concern for Trotters chiefs, however, and with Amos' future hanging in the balance, he admits to being in the dark as to which direction his career will take over the coming months.

"I've not spoken to anyone at the club," Amos told South London Press.

"I imagine it will be a similar situation to last season, where I'm expecting not to go away with them in pre-season. I'm expecting games to be played, that kind of thing. I'm ready for all of that.

"I've said it before but I have got so much trust in my agent James Featherstone - he is one of the very best. He has got a great moral compass in an industry where that is hard to come by. So I'll leave all that in his capable hands.

"I'm ready to go in every day, whether that is training with the first team or the under-18s I'll give it my all every day, as I always will.

"I didn't really get a pre-season under my belt last season because Bolton did not take me away with the first-team. I was training with the under-23s."

When asked whether he could make a return to Charlton this summer, Amos added: "I wouldn't rule anything out, to be honest with you.

"I've said it is the most enjoyable season for me, even with all the ups and downs. It is such a great club and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there.

"But my honest answer is I don't know, I don't want to say things that aren't true. But I think I'd be very privileged to play for Charlton again - whether that is this season or the future."
